Thanks RR Big Grin.
Question 2 of a possible Million: Did you ever see Ted Drake in action? Eeker, and how awesome was he?! He seems to have had an eye and half for Goal!

Ted was one of the greatest strikers ever to play for us,but he retired in 1945 and therefore I never had the chance to see him play.

Question for Rainham

why do some football grounds have square corner flags and others have triangle ones?

Funny how many of us have been at the same places at the same times but probably would'nt recognise each other.

Do you remember our famous Irish International Fullbacks McGill and McCullogh and Jim ( fumbles ) Furnell. Cult Heroes. ! Smiler

I certainly do Potter. You can`t compare them to todays players for skill and athleticism.Do you remember that Billy McCullough was nicknamed Flint after the scout in Wagon Train?

Around that time we had a goalkeeper called McKechnie (spelling?) who was dropped for being overweight and told to go on a diet! Jim Furnell had his off days but I thought he was good.

Another question: Why did sections of the crowd have blow up red/yellow bananas in the late 80s/ early 90s. Was going through my VHS/DVD collections and that caught my attention. I think someone has said why before, but I cant remember.
Just looks out of place amongst all the flags and blow up league trophies Razzer

Question 2 -

why is it in the modern game if a player is injured after receiving treatment he has to leave the field of play - Why does'nt this law apply to goalkeepers Confused

I`ll take this one Rainham as it`s not specifically Arsenal related. The idea was to stop players feigning injury to waste time. Making them leave the pitch was supposed to deter them. It didn`t apply to goalkeepers due to the impracticality of dressing up another player as the goalkeeper when the real custodian might be waved back onto the pitch in 10 seconds to again swap clothing with the bloke who`d taken over. In my opinion, the whole thing has backfired. If a foul tackle injures your best free kick taker on the edge of the box the kicker is off the pitch when the kick is taken through no fault of his own therefore advantage to the offending side. FIFA eh?

There was another called Mc Lelland as well I always got their names mixed up. Jim Furnell was alright as a keeper but he had a habit of ducking down and taking the ball above his head, and when he parried it like that he got the nickname Fumbling Jim. The north Bank had a song for him taken from Manfred Mann's mighty Quinn. that went

Come on without , come on within, You ain't seen nothing like Fumbling Jim.

I hope my assistant snappy has answered the question to your satisfaction. As he says the rule has backfired and I seem to recall that Arsenal were awarded a penalty but it was our usual penalty taker who had to go off the field after receiving treatment and therefore could not take the penalty.
