As if he wasn't already 'watched so closely' by all those who hated him last season.

So, he'll be watched closely. What happens next?

What happens next? Those that are disrespectful of Arsenal players (and then ironically question players' loyalty) will continue to bad-mouth the player and find 'cute', derisive names to call him.

He will have to come out with a statement sooner or later, so until then we'll just have to put up with the continued speculation.

What statement do you want him to come out with? It would be far more advisable to just let his feet do the talking and score goals. If he denies it, there will be those haters who still don't believe him. If he admits it, there were be just an increased furor. If he says he was ill-advised and made a hasty statement, it won't make any difference. It's best to simply ignore the 'very nice' derisive people and get on with his job.

Sierra I always think your posts are good and acknowledge that you spend alot of time on here.
I dont see where you are coming from on the Adebayor qusetion. Posted 22 July 2008 10:04 AM Hide Post What happens next? Isnt respect earned Sierra ? In my life it is by people in my life and people I admire. If you believe that Adebayor has done nothing wrong then you are way off the mark on this one. Players like Adams, Rocastle, Vieira, Bergkamp, Pires, Seaman, Henry, Rocastle all earnt respect from the fans. It wasnt given for free. |
And, that instead of having a standard weekly wage rate, the wages should be set so that a certain amount is attainable given performance; for example, instead of £60K a week, pay £40K and make the additional £20K based on a variety of attainable goals (not goals scored, but rather tasks). It certainly might then encourage some players to get off the injury table faster and others to strive a bit harder when we are already one up.
Something tongue in cheek from another site (well tongue in cheek from me). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here’s an idea, pay him a bonus of say £100,000 a goal, that would be an extra £3 million a year, then dock him say £50,000 for each miss, that would also be £3,000,000 a year, add to that say £50,000 for each pointless offside and that would come to £1,200,000, which out of his current salary of £1,820,000 a year would leave him £620,000, that in turn would leave him on a paltry, yes paltry £12k a week. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Where I'm coming from is a season of listening to vehement, nasty statements about Adebayor. It has to do with people that I consider to be reasonable, nice folk jumping on the name-calling bandwagon simply because others are doing it and it's a 'bonding' thing. I find Adebayor very naive and perhaps not the brightest person when it comes to the press and knowing when to not feed the sharks. None of us know the real story behind all of this - and yet so many are quick to believe the worst. There is, I believe, two types of respect that are given to an Arsenal player. The first type of respect has nothing to do with the person, but rather that the person is in an Arsenal shirt and therefore should be supported and not villified - he is, after all, still Arsenal. The second type of respect, which is earned, is for the person himself and his talents. If nothing else, Adebayor has my respect because he IS part of Arsenal and is a member of the team, not to mention having earned us points last year with thirty goals. Where would we have been in the standings had those thirty goals not been put in the net? I'm just tired, Rocastle, of all those who are quick to scream like a baying mob without having all the facts. |

Well, he can't leave it at that, there have been too many things attributed to him, so he has to come out and "put the record straight". If someone doesn't like Ade, whatever he says is not going to change that, but I am sure that there are many of us who would like to hear his side, so that we can form a reasonable opinion. |

The lack of respect for someone who scored the same amount of goals as Fernando Torres, lauded the best striker in Europe, is staggering to me.
You'd think he didn't score at all last season. |

Sure he can, Jersey. Better to say nothing than to try to explain and have that turned against him too.

TW and Sierra you are both extremely bright people. Can you not understand that Adebayor has held Arsenal to ransom. Only reason they may be a slight question mark over the facts is Arsenals professional attitude to never discuss problems in public.
Yes Adebayor is an Arsenal player yes he scored 30 goals last season but im afraid thats not enough not to anger alot of fans who are choosing Arsenal FC ahead of a single player. If Adeboyor is innocent of all the quotes etc then whats the last 4 weeks been about ? Just the press lying to unsettle the team ? In this case I dont think so. |
