Well he had his critics before all this went on anyway, I can't speak for anyone else, but I wouldn't be surprised if some are just using this as an excuse to get on his back
Thats definitely the case, many fans were openly abusing him last season before any contract issues.
for example, instead of £60K a week, pay £40K and make the additional £20K based on a variety of attainable goals (not goals scored, but rather tasks). It certainly might then encourage some players to get off the injury table faster and others to strive a bit harder when we are already one up.
I think that could work to a degree, there are already appearance/goal bonuses, but football is ultimately a team game. Its difficult to reward individual performance if that will cause a conflict of interest. I remember Baptista wrestling Diaby off the ball so he could shoot the other season, that would be happening every week if there was 20K riding on it.

It could be tied to other things also, TW - assists (maybe weighted higher than goals to keep the wrestling to a minimum), time on the pitch, showing up for practice on time and not leaving early (I know that one highly paid ex-player was guilty of that), showing up at off-pitch commitments, even mentoring time spent with younger players, tackles, clean sheets... the list is bountiful.

Yes, it would be good if that would work. Seems there are a lot of players(not so much at Arsenal) that do little work/give little performance for a large wage these days.

like the idea of that. shame it wasn't last season.
Just imagine, adebayor . . .to Bendtner in open space . . . that's it 3-1 to Arsenal, no way can Birmgingham come back from that.
If only eh?
“Barcelona have made a good financial offer and there is also the chance to play alongside great players. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I’ll leave.”
“But the career of a footballer is soon over. My good goals aren’t the only things I am going to enjoy at the end of it. I have to prepare for my retirement as a player, too. Even if you’re not scoring fine goals and you have money, you can enjoy a happy retirement. The time for preparing for that moment is now.”
Good posts Hobart, don't think he said any of this tbh.

I was Ade's biggest fan last season but it seems too me that people will pick on anything they can when it comes to him. He was slagged off all last season even though he was our highest goal scorer, the guy can do nothing right! I don't know what I do or don't believe in all this but he seems to me, in general and not just about the transfer rumours, that he appears to be some kind of scapegoat - majority of supporters don't seem to like him.
I never join in with any kind of chant that slags off one of our players until they have left, it's not right in my opinion.

A good post. I am not and never have been an Ade fan, but I am fed up with all this Ade bashing. I also think that he is worth more than we are currently paying him.

Looks like Wenger wants to keep him so I will be watching how he plays for us very closely. Anyone who thinks he didnt rock the boat is deluded.
