The Times yesterday was basically saying that if we want him and have 10 mil liverpool will sell so they can get barry? sounds like we have already spoken to liverpool?
cesc was also in the article saying that alonso would be perfect to play alongside him as they've done for spain and they're good mates?
Really can't see an Alonso and Cesc partnership working, would rather have someone more defensive that can get stuck in
Can you explain why you dont think it would work? Alonso has played a holding role for liverpool since he arrived and his partnership with steven gerrard would work very much the way it would with cesc. Allowing cesc to attack with forwards as gerrard does. He has got to two champions league finals with liverpool and won one of them and hea was an integral part of the team on both occasions. He has experience with playing with our first choice centre midfielder and the player our team is likely to be base around for the next five or so years. He is very technically able and does do the ugly things when he needs to. At 26 anything under 15 mill for a champions league, european championship winner with plenty of top level experience is a steal. who else would you suggest would fill the role better?
Sir Wenger, you`ve convinced me. Didn`t the scousers manager hint that talks had already taken place? Silvestre plus Alonso would bring us much needed experience.
Don't get me wrong, Its not that I don't rate him, cos' I do, for most of the reasons you mentioned, I just mean from our overall team's perspective, I think we need someone with more presence in the middle, as we are a pretty small team, a grafter like Flamini who made a huge difference last season. I would prefer Barry over Alonso tbh out of those two

Cesc and Gerrard are nothing alike, Gerrard is very much a box-to-box player and can provide the engine in the middle, win headers and put in tackle after tackle, maybe thats why having a more casual player like Alonso next to him worked.

Fair enough, i dont agree but i accept what your saying. I think alonso is a taller stonger version of flamini with more technical ability and pace and the odd peach of a long range shot. Barry is a good player but for me alonso fits our team better in terms of style of play. Barry is unproven at the highest level, the only positive is see of getting him over alonso is that he is english.
