Everytime Arsene speaks he keeps saying he's got the money but does not want to spend it. Personally I think even if we had 100 million available Arsene would not spend it. Therefore I think there is money there but Arsene is just tight... I also don't think that Wenger is responsible for every player we sign as I dont this he would sanction 5 million on Ramsey or 10 million on Walcott.

So I think it is Wenger. However the board are also repsonsible for not telling Wenger to spend.

I can't believe the amount of players that have left this season to be replaced by inexperienced youngsters...

After all the shrewdness and the brilliant work Wenger has done for us i simply cannot beleive he has turned into a Muppet since we moved to the new stadium, because only a Muppet would think that this squad is good enough. He is simply towing the clubs line regarding the money. If he had some I'm sure he would have spent some.

Since we moved we have made money in the transfer market.

ultimately Wenger is the one that will be put out to try dry if everything goes pear shaped... If however Wenger had some balls and said we dont have any money then the fans would put pressure on the board instead of the manager that has served us so well...

Ultimately Wenger is an employee of the board. He would have to tow the line, unless he was prepared to walk. Same as most of us in our jobs, we may complain internally but when it comes to talking to clients and the media you wouldn't say a word, unless you wanted the chop.

Well, TBH Arsene did speak out about this whole issue.

I still remember THAT infamous interview which appeared a few months ago in which he stated that AFC has now become a selling Club and that he HAS to raise at lest 24 M every summer from players sales in order to repay the Stadium debt.
He concluded by saying that it'll take 17 more years to clear that debt and to see an improvement in our current transfer policy.

Now, because of the fact that that interview was published by the News of the World I've been awaiting a confirmation of those quotes ever since from either AW or AFC.com , but nothing has come up as yet... which makes me believe that the Club decided not to comment on that and that AW's quotes were legit.

If those words are indeed true, then the Board should be held fully responsible for what it's happening at the Club and ******* REALIZE that they've taken us as far as they could.

Here's the link of THAT interview : http://blogs.notw.co.uk/sport/2008/07/arsenal-go-for.html

The comments coming from the board and Arsene are mutually exclusive.

Either we have X million pounds to spend on transfers or we have to sell to pay for the stadium. It's one or the other, they cannot both be true.

I still CANNOT believe that not a single journalist has quizzed AW about THAT interview .

I'd be prepared to even pay one to hear what AW has to say about the following lines :

' He declared: “The strategy of the club is to sell every year and to buy less expensive players.”

And he has warned this official policy could continue for another 17 YEARS!

He added: “We manage at Arsenal to maintain all our football ambitions — national and European —while having to free up - for 17 more years - an annual surplus of £24m to pay for our stadium.

“The club’s strategy is to favour the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game.” '

He never actually says that he must sell £24m of players every summer just that the club has to pay £24m off the stadium every year. In theory that should come from the extra revenue not players sales.

He does say

“The strategy of the club is to sell every year and to buy less expensive players.”
and
“The club’s strategy is to favour the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game.”

Nothing new there tbh.

To be fair I don't think that the quality is out there these days at reasonable prices.

Players we would usually want to sign, quality wise, Essien, Torres, Villa etc. £30M a go. It would bankrupt the club if we spent that and it didn't work out, a la Shevchenko, Veron, SWP etc.

Wenger has to search for the quality when they are young and develop it, or buy poor/average players at over-inflated prices like Spurs and Man City etc do.

I am begining to think that there is a battle of wills going on that we have no clue about.

What was it that the much maligned Hleb said after leaving us.

'The future for Arsenal, if Wenger stays, is that they will always play at the top. But of course it is difficult now because Arsenal have a few political differences.

'When he leaves, I think this is a difficult time coming for Arsenal. Sometimes I think that Arsenal do not want to keep this team, not give something more.'

Perhaps Hleb is closer to the truth than some would like to think, Hobart.

Hhhhmmmm. I'm sure if Hleb knows it. Then the whole squad does too. Wonder what Cesc will be discussing when he is the phone to his three best mates. Hleb, Flamini, and Senderos?
