Baptista wouldnt of signed for any non-spanish club...he wanted his passport and you cant blame him for that, for anyone else for that matter except maybe the foregin office?!
AW did say trust him but seems u've judged the season already....maybe wait see what happens before you do that?
I agree with you adjafc. The only reason for all this as far as I can see is that AW didn't have all the money that the newspapers claimed he had. It's been an extremely disappointing summer but I do believe that if we can keep away from injuries (not very likely, but it can happen) on key players, we still have one of the three best teams in the country.
According to some not so reliable newspapers today, Henry is not too happy about AW's activities this summer as well. I don't think he's said that he will leave, but if you are a world class player like Henry, it's just fair that he wants to play in a team with world class players. How many players have we got that's world class? That's not many. We have a couple who can become world class, but it's still just unrealised potential.
If AW didn't have any money, then how was he expected to pay for Baptista and Viera?
A lorry load of peanuts possibly, or a lifetime subscription to the Arsenal magazine?
I think this is a shrewd move by Wenger. The fact that we haven't been able to get anyone at a reasonable price, is because everyone thinks we've got 30M burning a hole in our back pocket, which immediately puts up the price.
By looking skint now, we may be able to pick up some reasonably priced players in January!
Saw an interview with Robinio recently who said that our offer was far greater than Real Madrids for him but he wanted to go there instead. What dose frustrate me is Real said they would track any player AW had his eyes on and that seems to have been the case with Baptista too as they didnt entre till late on for both of these players.
Guys i'm sick of hearing that were gonna finish second. Well let me just say i for 1 don't. We are going to win the league and show once again we have a lot of young talent.
I am however frustrated that we have been promised 2 world class players and got none and instead sold 2 but anyways whats done is done, when we move to our new place we will have more money and also be able to attract more players, and hopefully this will include some already class players.
P.S. We also missed out on robinio and sergio ramos to madrid, looks like they are just watching our moves and then stealling the players from us.!!!
This could be an interesting thread on what is a big club?
Real Madrid, AC Milan etc don't have the same sort of money as us, but can lure players because of their history and tradition. We are still some way from acheiving that. Need European cups.
Its true Wingate im not sure why that is... you would have thought players would rather jump into a team that plays great football and that have some great world class stars rather then be left on the bench at a so called 'great club' cos they do have traditions. Its not like we dont have a great fan base or that were any lesser club we have as good a chance of winning things a any other team.
What criteria is used to pinpoint a big club, I am not to sure.Even the scum think they are a big club lol.All I know is that Aresnal are known worldwide, with a fan base worldwide with world class players and have a history to be proud of,in my terms that is what makes a big club
