BSC I believe that is rubbish Bergkamp has previously said he signed because of Riochs vision of attacking football.

I remember being very pleased the day Rioch signed for us. There was going to be an end to the 'percentage football' that GG had installed and a move towards passing and movement to attack other teams. Rioch delivered on that - the team started the migration and Bergkamp coming onboard was the catalyst to this IMO. He was shabbily treated by the Arsenal Board but they made the right decision because AW was able to hit the ground running...the rest is history....

Lets not forget the Grahams team had been underperforming for a considerable time and stifled by playing that 'percentage football'. My Great Nan would have made an improvement and she was already dead 10 years

Yep, I think GG had lost effectiveness and other teams had worked out how to play against us. But your comment about Rioch does sound like a frustrated guitar player at a concert - anyone could do that! - well maybe but you've got to put yrself in the position in the first place.

And to think this all stems from my using Rioch as an example of appreciating that we had some poorer times. Next time I'll use Terry Neil as an example!!!!
We are blessed to have Wenger but as with anything as you improve your expectations higher. Even when we were bad there would still be criticism, and there is nothing wrong with it.

These days I never go to a match wondering whether it will be entertaining - I only wonder if we can win or not....and when we do it is fantastic....I just have to shrug and put it to one side more often than I'd like to this season.
I too came to Arsenal first when they weren't very good and had to put up with the thought that we were also rans for 20 odd years until we eventually stumbled across the line with a 90 minute league winner. Those 'dark' years never leave you.
The consolation of watching fantastically skillful players gets me through and having been around the block I really am more optimistic for the future than I ever have been...that's why I get frustrated with the n'er do wells on the forum...it just seems premature to call us doomed and rubbish. Rubbish is when you go 10 games without scoring or when you go to each game knowing you are going to lose - and we are so far removed from those days that I can't understand current negative mentality.
I always promised myself that when I became a Dad that I'd never harp on about the good or bad old days - damn..

that talk is complete rubbish. so if you dont have a ST then your 'plastic'? well i certainly dont have one but i can swear that i am a true arsenal fan. go to the games i can go to subject to availability including away games up north etc. so does that make me plastic?
just wondering...
imagine being second in the league in nov by beating our local rivals live on sky while they wear one of our old away shirts. then going on a losing streak of 8 games and only winning 2 out of the last 22 games up to now. also imagine since nov playing turgid long ball football and having the chairman and manager resigned to taking us down to the league below?
oops sorry that my local side!! and you think you have something to moan about!!
haha what a difference a year and a half makes......
NOT!
we still have all the whiners on here after only 1 defeat and my local team are doing worse than ever 5 games 4 defeats 1 draw:s
