I have heard the station at the ground will be out of service. so whats best and quickest way back to picadilly?have a flight home from birmingham at 11 so must catch 8:15 train from picadilly to birmingham. cheers
This article only states the tram service is cancelled. What about the trains?There is a train from piccadilly that goes to old trafford and uses a different station. Although trying to get on after a match is a mission.

Stop on, every time I've caught the train from OT train station to Piccadilly, it's always rammed by the gates to the station. The game finishes around 7pm, so you make your 20:15 train comfortably.
As soon the final whistle blows, head straight for the exit, the station is right next to the away stand, so you she get there easily, just a matter of squeezing through the two small turnstiles ahead of 10,000 other people. Good luck!
