wonder how this affects the likes of purchases that are made in advance such as season tickets / annual rail tickets etc where a proportion of the purchase relates to goods to be received after the reduction of VAT comes in effect?
It won't affect it. VAT is at the point of purchase.
I have just heard that I will be paying 45% tax soon
I wonder if those earning that sort of money will really be affected?

Its like the charge of £400 for road tax on 4x4`s and high CO2 emission vehicles.

Well if you`re driving and can afford to run a Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5 are you really going to be financially affected by that?

I just think the government gets these things totally wrong.

No, and thats part of the reasoning behind taxing them higher. Upping tax by 5% for basic rate tax payers would be disastrous but may yield the same amount of money.

I think they should make the road tax astronomical for people that drive 4x4s unless they are using them for agricultural/farm use etc. Just no need for them in a city centre.

If they didn't waste all the money on illegal wars and bailing out failing banks, they wouldn't need to but again its a bit late for that. Got to get the money some way, and taxing the poor (like they tried to do before) was certainly not the way forward.

Look if the Government was worried about climate change they would make us all drive 1100cc cars with a max speed limit of 50MPH. It's all about TAX and their directorships, dont you get it?

Well they could start by filling the 500,000 jobs with 500,000 dole wallers for a start. They might also tell the utility companies to reduce their prices by 25% in line with oil prices which would benifit us all and cost the Country nothing. Even the profits made by the utilities go abroad.

Thats one of the ideas of the tax cuts. Which you dismissed in my earlier post.

Companies can't afford to employ people at present. The 30,000 apparently being laid of at Woolworths don't want to be on the dole. The gov't need to try and encourage employers to take people on.
